Texans among Republican House members seeking answers from Facebook about Hunter Biden

Several Texans are among the House Republicans demanding that Meta Platforms Inc. Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg hand over FBI warnings and communications that led Facebook to suppress news about President Joe Biden’s son weeks before the 2020 election. More than 30 Republicans told Zuckerberg in a letter last week that it “is highly troubling” that the technology giant limited distribution of a 2020 New York Post article about Hunter Biden, his laptop, “and allegations of Biden family corruption.” Zuckerberg mentioned the incident in an interview last week with podcaster Joe Rogan.

The letter, signed by Representatives Jim Jordan of Ohio, the top Judiciary Committee Republican, James Comer of Kentucky, the top Oversight and Reform Committee Republican, and 33 colleagues provides another indication that the GOP will focus heavily on Hunter Biden if the party gains control of the House — and with it committee subpoena power. Texas Republicans signing the letter were Reps. Pat Fallon of Sherman, Pete Sessions of Waco, Chip Roy of Austin, Michael Cloud of Victoria and Louie Gohmert of Tyler. Conservatives from the state have largely been outspoken in supporting former President Donald Trump’s actions in making frequent political attacks on Hunter Biden. For some of them, including Roy and Gohmert, launching a full-blown federal investigation of Hunter Biden already is a long-running effort. Roy, a House Freedom Caucus member first elected to Congress in 2018, says he’s running for reelection “to stop Joe Biden from destroying this country.” And Gohmert, who is retiring after his current two-year term ends in January, has called for a special counsel to investigate.
