Schatzline wins Texas House District 93 Republican runoff

In a race that saw the state’s two top officials split their endorsements, newcomer Nate Schatzline easily won the May 24 election to determine who will represent the Republican Party in the race for Texas House District 93. His opponent, Laura Hill, had previously served as mayor in Southlake. With 100% of the vote counted, Schatzline received 65% of the vote. In a message shared on Facebook, Hill congratulated Schatzline and thanked her supporters. While Schatzline is a first-time candidate, he has received endorsements from several top-ranking conservatives, both current and former members of the Texas House, including representatives Jeff Cason, Tony Tinderholt and Bill Zedler. He also was endorsed by current officeholder Rep. Matt Krause. He didn’t return messages for comment. Schatzline is a former pastor and serves as the director of operations for The Justice Reform, an anti-human trafficking organization.

Texas House members serve two-year terms, are not subject to term limits and earn an annual salary of $7,200. The current state representative, Krause, first took office in 2013. He originally announced he was going to seek statewide office, but after current Tarrant County District Attorney Sharen Wilson said she would not seek re-election, Krause announced he would run for the DA position. Krause lost in his race Tuesday to former Judge Phil Sorrells, who will represent the Republican Party on the ballot in November. Schatzline will face Democrat KC Chowdhury, a small business owner, in November.
