In May, a notice was sent to school staff saying the district was looking into “allegations of failure to follow district policy” on campus, but did not go into specifics. The district has several policies, which are either required by law or the state, recommended by the Texas Association of School Boards or have been approved by the district’s board.
Few details have been released about the investigation, causing speculation among parents, students and staffers.
McDonough was appointed to the role a decade ago by former Superintendent Terry Grier after serving as principal of Westside High School for three years, following almost six years as principal of Pin Oak Middle School. While McDonough was principal, the high school broke the record for the number of valedictorians graduating with a perfect grade point average.
