Miss Texas USA crowned Miss USA 2022, makes history at same time
A Texas fashion designer has been crowned Miss USA 2022, and in the process made pageant history.
R’Bonney Gabriel of Houston will represent the United States at the Miss Universe pageant, which is scheduled for January in New Orleans.
During her one-year reign, Gabriel will be paid a six-figure salary, appear in a Tyler Perry TV series, live in a luxury Los Angeles condo and receive a Porsche, according to the Miss USA website.
The 28-year-old Gabriel is the first Asian American woman to earn the Miss Texas USA title. She also is the first Filipina American to hold the title.
She competed against 50 other contestants from the 49 other states plus the District of Columbia.
As a tribute to her parents, Gabriel designed her Miss USA interview outfit herself.
