Klein ISD teacher fired, charged after allegedly showing video of adult content in classroom

A Klein ISD high school teacher was fired Tuesday and criminally charged for allegedly displaying inappropriate adult material on a classroom projector, the district confirmed Wednesday. Kevin Welchel, who taught at Klein Collins High School, was fired after being accused of watching adult content on a school laptop and inadvertently showing it on a classroom projector, district officials said Wednesday.

“The individual was immediately removed and is no longer employed by the district,” said Justin Elbert, executive director of communications for the district, in a statement. “Law enforcement filed charges that have been accepted by the district attorney's office, and all appropriate legal action will be taken to the fullest extent of the law. The district does not tolerate such completely unacceptable conduct.” Welchel was charged with “display of harmful material to a minor, ” a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $4,000, the district said.
