Marlene Guzman, one of Houston's prominent TV anchors, announced she is leaving Univision 45 Houston after nearly six years with the station. The Houston-native local reporter and weekend news anchor will soon take her talents to South Texas as a national correspondent with the Univision National News team, she announced Monday via Facebook. She will soon pack up for a nearly six-hour trek south to McAllen, where she will cover all of Texas and immigration on the border for the national news team, she said Tuesday to the Chronicle.

Although she has lived in Mexico for a 10-year stint as a child and in Laredo for a brief nine months as the news anchor/producer for Fox 39 and co-anchor for Univision, she will always call Houston home. "Obviously I have all my family here, so many friends, colleagues, and you meet people getting to hear their stories," said Guzman, who is a University of Houston alumna. "It's bittersweet. It's still a little sad leaving Houston but I'm excited about the stories I'll be covering at the border." She anchored her last show for KXLN-DT on Sunday's 5 and 10 p.m. broadcasts, and will start her new role on Feb. 15. Guzman has worn many hats during her Univison Houston tenure. She initially joined in July 2016 on the news team as producer of the evening and nightly newscasts and has been in charge of special coverage on Hurricane Harvey, the 2017 earthquake in Mexico, the death of former First Lady Barbara Bush and the Astros' World Series victory, among others. Her work earned her a Lone Star Emmy nomination in 2017. As a Spanish-language journalist, she has previously held roles at Azteca America Houston as a national and regional news correspondent, and at CBS radio, according to her LinkedIn profile. "With over six years of media experience in the Hispanic market, Marlene has excelled as a state and national news correspondent and Spanish-language radio personality," her bio on Univision 45 reads.
