Fierro, Kennedy, Canales win City Council seats
The El Paso City Council will have three new representatives starting in January as Texas Rep. Art Fierro easily defeated incumbent Claudia Rodriguez in a runoff to represent the East Side.
Fierro will join Brian Kennedy, an El Paso businessman, and Chris Canales, a current city employee, on City Council as they too won their runoff elections.

Fierro, whose term as a state legislator ends on Dec. 31, received 57% of the vote while Rodriguez received 43%. He will represent District 6, which is just west of Loop 375 and north of Interstate 10.
In the Westside’s District 1 race, Brian Kennedy won with 70% of the vote. Analisa Cordova Silverstein received 30% of the vote.
In the race to represent City Council District 8, which encompasses parts of South El Paso, Kern Place and South Mesa Hills, Chris Canales defeated Bettina Olivares. Canales received 63% of the vote. Olivares got 37%.
