DA dismisses case against ex-Dallas council member Kevin Felder involving teen on scooter

The Dallas County district attorney’s office on Thursday dismissed a felony case against former Dallas City Council member Kevin Felder that stemmed from an incident involving a teenager on a motorized scooter. Felder said said that the charge was politically motivated to cost him his seat on the council. “No weapon formed against me shall prosper,” Felder said, paraphrasing the Bible. District Attorney John Creuzot’s office declined to comment. A grand jury indicted Felder two and half years ago on a charge of failure to stop and render aid related to the Feb. 13, 2019, crash near Fair Park. A teenager who was riding a motorized scooter told Dallas police he was hit from behind by a blue Ford Fusion.

The scooter rider could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday. Failure to stop and render aid is a third-degree felony, punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Felder previously denied that a collision occurred and said he would be vindicated, and he reiterated that sentiment Thursday. He said he had filed for re-election just 15 minutes before the crash was said to have occurred. “This was politically motivated to get me out of office,” he said. “This is what I want everybody to know.” The dismissal is conditional on Felder’s completion of a defensive-driving course, said his attorney, Sherrod Edwards.
