Complaints: Books challenged in Houston schools are 'contrary to everything Christian', promote BLM
Houston-area school districts have seen a surge in requests to ban certain library books, many of which explore issues of race or have LGBTQ+ characters, reflecting statewide and national trends.
Despite the noticeable increase, the Houston region so far largely has avoided the blitz of challenges targeting other districts statewide.

At least 19 books and learning materials were removed following complaints across 32 Houston-area districts, including several books pulled from campus libraries but not others, according to a Houston Chronicle survey of area school systems.
Most of the books that were either challenged or pulled were done so because of “pervasive vulgarity." Other complaints say they "corrupt young minds," "normalize teenage sex" and promote "Black Lives Matter propaganda."
