Castroville chief resigns after racist remarks reportedly caught on camera
The police chief from Castroville has resigned from his position after allegations that he used the N-word at the scene of a homicide.
Chief Brian Jackson, who was on leave pending the outcome of an investigation by city officials, resigned Tuesday.
At a city council meeting Tuesday evening, elected officials unanimously voted to accept his resignation.
Jackson allegedly used the racial slur while at a crime scene on Feb. 5 at U.S. Highway 90 and Houston Street. Several other law enforcement agencies were at the scene.

The slur was reportedly used at least three times in front of a Medina County sheriff’s deputy equipped with a body-worn camera, a source told KSAT.
Medina County Sheriff Randy Brown overheard the language used in the footage and alerted the city, he told the television station.
Jackson was placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation on Feb. 22.
Officer Freddy Waggoner was selected to serve as the interim police chief when Jackson was placed on administrative leave. Waggoner has been with the Castroville Police Department since 2018.
