Sikes’ attorney Dick DeGeurin said she shot the man, identified as Wesley Jermaine Gobert, in self-defense.
“It’s pretty clear from what we know this was a matter of her being in fear for her life of this guy,” DeGuerin said. “She only shot him because he was about to attack her. This guy was dangerous.”
The house where the shooting occurred was once owned by Bette Hawn, mother of Julianna Hawn Holt, according to appraisal district records. Bette Hawn died Jan. 6, 2011.
Officers were dispatched shortly after 11 p.m. on June 23 to a reported shooting in the 1900 block of Larchmont Road, Lt. R. Willkens of the Houston Police Department said.
Police responding to the shooting said they found a man lying in the driveway and a woman inside the residence.
