Gov. Abbott says Texas Supreme Court should toss out legislative subpoena of death row inmate Roberson
Abbott’s general counsel argues that only the governor can legally delay an execution and the legislature has no authority to do so

Gov.
Greg Abbott is now asserting his executive authority in the fight over
whether a death row inmate can be summoned to testify before a Texas
House committee today.
Citing
the Texas Constitution’s Separation of Powers Clause, Abbott’s
general counsel James Sullivan asked the Texas Supreme Court
to “dismiss the House Committee’s petition for lack of jurisdiction.” The
argument was in a letter sent overnight.
