A new boss at the Texas Association of Business, new lobby ventures, staffer moves, and a notable retirement from the Capitol

There’s no calm before the storm.

Of course, Labor Day Weekend usually serves as the unofficial start of the campaign season in even numbered years. Republican US Senate nominee Ken Paxton seems to be the only major candidate who’s honored that tradition this year. He’s started barnstorming the state after our sources in Houston told us that President Donald Trump last week at a fundraiser told Paxton “get your ass out there on the campaign trail!”

That’s after Democratic nominees James Talarico and Gina Hinojosa have already been crisscrossing Texas for months in their campaigns. It’s also after Talarico already spent millions on positive TV commercials introducing himself and has now shifted to negative attack ads against Paxton this past week.
