Updated: Pro-voucher group misreports contributions to anti-voucher Republicans
“These people who are spending millions of dollars attacking me and other conservative Republicans across the state don’t even know who we are. They can’t keep straight who they are attacking and who they are supporting.”
Editor’s note: This
story has been updated throughout because we’ve learned of another race in
which the same thing occurred – SB
A pro-school voucher group
running ads against anti-voucher Texas House Republicans has mistakenly
reported expenditures as in-kind contribution to at least two of their targets.
After initial publication of this story, Quorum
Report has learned another target of the group was given notice of such
a contribution.
Rep. DeWayne Burns,
R-Cleburne, on Monday said the Family Empowerment Coalition PAC,
created by construction heir Leo Linbeck III of
Houston and Dallas megadonor Doug Deason, had reported a contribution
supporting him when they created ads against him. Former Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr.
is also on the PAC’s board, by
the way.
“Folks, you can’t make
this stuff up,” Burns said.
