Sands gets smacked in North Texas Senate race while water funding glides to passage and Menefee leads in battle to succeed Sly Turner in Congress

Raw politics: The team around former Speaker Dennis Bonnen is no match for Patrick and Blakemore; the results in SD9 also seem to indicate a serious enthusiasm gap with Democrats much more motivated in the suburbs even when their candidate isn’t well-funded

If Sands doesn’t reassess everything they’ve been doing in Texas at this point, many political professionals will think they just can’t be helped.

That was much of the chatter tonight as the election results started to roll in after 7pm.

Despite millions of dollars spent, the company came nowhere close to passing casino gaming two regular sessions ago, didn’t even get an effort at the Texas Capitol this year, and tonight their candidate came in third place behind a Democrat and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s candidate in the race to succeed former Sen. Kelly Hancock in the Texas Senate.

Let’s get real: Whether you like them or not, the folks in the orbit of former Speaker Dennis Bonnen including consultant Mitch Carney and Bonnen’s former Chief Gavin Massingill are just no match for Patrick and GOP powerhouse consultant Allen Blakemore.
