Appropriations Chairman Bonnen urges rider on Medicaid managed care, apparently at the urging of his brother former Speaker Bonnen

Former Speaker Bonnen is working for Amerigroup and lost a vote in the House on a related issue last week; we are told that even the for-profit health plans other than Amerigroup are balking at this new effort

With billions at stake in Medicaid managed care in this state, a new budget rider quietly pushed by a former Texas House speaker is said to be aimed at benefiting one of his clients and hurting even other for-profit health plans.

Children’s hospitals might be the worst of the collateral damage, we are told.

All of this is according to sources with knowledge of the budget talks who told Quorum Report about it on Tuesday.
