HK: Veto period under Abbott has become a ritual side show, now coinciding with Senate impeachment rules telling us what Patrick really wants done
In case there was any real doubt that the inmates are running the asylum, we have the just completed Veto Comedy Hour in which members found bills vetoed pending their future votes on other legislation. Huh?
Aside from the budget,
only two issues had to pass during the regular session – some optical reduction
of property taxes and a teacher pay raise.
Shockingly, a month after
the first sine die, neither shows any real signs of life. One is on life
support because the Governor only decided he wanted to participate in the property
tax negotiation in the last week of the session when the House and Senate were
deadlocked and personal poison between the two leaders permeated the air.
Ultimately, trying to sell
vouchers/ESAs in rural Texas proved to be more important to the Governor and
Lt. Governor than teacher pay raises and tax reduction.
And in case there was any
real doubt that the inmates are running the asylum, we have the just completed Veto
Comedy Hour in which members found bills vetoed pending their future
votes.
Huh?
This feels like a
political leader struggling for relevance.
