With the primary fast approaching, Democrats push voter registration despite roadblocks under new election law and perhaps intentional fumbles by the SOS
Poll watcher training – a new requirement under Senate
Bill 1 – will go out as early as next week, state elections staff said
during a town hall hosted by Sen. Royce West, D-Dallas. Meantime, the
Texas Democratic Party this morning unveiled a push to send voter registration
cards to a half million people after reports of paper shortages out of the Secretary
of State’s Office.
“We're doing the work that the State of TX won’t –
working past a paper shortage to print 500k voter registration cards & send
them across TX,” the TDP said across its social
media accounts.
Meantime, some Democratic legislators from around the
country offered
to send paper from their states to the Texas Secretary of State to make
sure there are enough voter registration forms for folks before the Monday
deadline.
Still, there was at least a showing of bipartisan effort
at voter education in DFW.
