While Uvalde parents waited to learn if their children were among the dead, Gov. Abbott attended high dollar fundraiser in Walker County
Going forward, Abbott’s campaign says “All campaign and political activity, including a scheduled fundraiser for this evening, have postponed until further notice.”
On the day of the massacre
in Uvalde, Gov. Greg Abbott’s schedule included a previously scheduled
fundraiser in Walker County that at least some in the Texas Capitol
community have already said he maybe should have canceled given the gravity of the
day.
As parents were waiting at
the Civic Center in Uvalde to find out whether their children were among the
dead, Abbott headed to the Huntsville area to attend a fundraiser hosted at the
home of Jeff Bradley, who also happened to be a contributor to Rep. Kyle
Kacal’s GOP opponent Ben Bius.
Abbott's Communications
Director Mark Miner said Abbott did attend the fundraiser last night but
out of respect has postponed others going forward.
“After holding a briefing
and press conference on the current wildfires in Taylor County, where he also
provided an update the situation in Uvalde, the Governor did stop by a
previously scheduled event last night at a private home in Walker County,” Miner
said. “All campaign and political activity, including a scheduled fundraiser
for this evening, have postponed until further notice.”
