In farewell interview, Senate Education Chair Taylor says HB3 was a crowning achievement, talks about the future of Texas schools
“When you look at a campus full of low-income students – and you can pull those students out and given them an education – and they go on to get a great job. Guess what? Their kids won’t be back in that situation. So, you’ve changed a family tree for that family”
Texas Senate Education Chair Sen. Larry
Taylor – in a farewell interview at the Texas Public Policy
Foundation this past week – expressed his continued support for school
accountability, teacher incentive pay, and the
promises of the $11.5 billion school finance bill passed in 2019.
One current and one former education chair – Taylor in the
Senate and Rep. Dan Huberty, R-Houston, in the House – are retiring from
the Texas legislature this cycle.
Chair Taylor, who has served in both House and Senate over
the last two decades, said he had great hope for the future of students in
Texas’ public education system.
“I don’t see students. I see family trees,” Taylor said.
