GOP Texas AG Commissioner Sid Miller blasts Gov. Abbott for border blockade, demands that he end it
“The President’s failed border policy does not need to be enhanced by a state policy that does little or nothing to impact illegal immigration,” Commissioner Miller told Abbott and predicted skyrocketing prices for produce: “The following week, Texas produce shelves will be empty – for the third time because of policies implemented by your administration.”
After reports in the last
few days from the Texas-Mexico border revealed a growing supply chain disaster
caused by Gov. Greg Abbott’s new orders for state inspections of
commercial trucks coming into the United States, Republican Texas Agriculture
Commissioner Sid Miller on Tuesday told Abbott in no uncertain terms
that his administration needs to reverse course right now. Abbott last week
ordered state inspections of commercial vehicles, creating long delays at
international bridges and sparking a protest among Mexican
truckers.
US Customs and
Border Protection was reporting
up to five-hour delays heading into Laredo. And on Monday, commercial traffic
was completely stopped at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge.
This is amid already high prices due to inflation with existing supply chain
issues compounding the problem. For the Pharr bridge alone, the traffic
stoppage is costing as much as $100 million per day, per journalist Dina
Arévalo at The
Monitor in the RGV.
Now Commissioner Miller,
who like Abbott enjoys the support for former President Donald Trump, says
the governor is only making things worse for Texas businesses and consumers.
