Amid retirements on the Texas State Board of Education, charter school advocates make a play to elect more members sympathetic to their cause
Texas AFT says “Candidates who accept these outrageous charter-school PAC donations are marking themselves as bought, ready to grease the wheels” while charter advocates argue their adversaries “have created a toxic political climate”
Texas AFT -- the teachers’ group most vocal about charter school applicants
– is calling out Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and the Walton
Family charities for underwriting $2 million to support pro-charter primary
candidates vying for seats on the State Board of Education.
At
one time, the conservative bloc on SBOE was its most powerful, and feared, faction.

Perez, Ruben Cortez and Lawrence Allen, Jr. – the issue that
could unite SBOE members is charter schools.
