Amid blistering criticism, Abbott Administration expands Teacher Vacancy Task Force

Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath, faced with strong criticism from teacher groups, has now equally weighted the new Teacher Vacancy Task Force between teachers and administrators.

The task force, announced by Gov. Greg Abbott last week, will “investigate the challenges teacher vacancies are causing for school districts, explore best practices for addressing this shortage, and research the possibility for flexibility of certification, placement, and hiring,” according to Abbott’s letter, dated March 7.
