With many Texans skeptical, Abbott Administration says they are working with lightning speed to improve reliability of electricity grid
PUC Chair Lake says “The combination of all of these reforms, these new rules, these new operating protocols are unprecedented, not only in ERCOT, but in any other grid in America.”
The Texas electric grid will be ready to handle any type
of weather – up to and including storms on the scale of February’s Winter
Storm Uri – as the state enters the winter season, the chair of the PUC
and the interim director of ERCOT told reporters at a
winter briefing this morning.
Peter Lake, chair of the PUC, said ERCOT and PUC
were operating at “lightning speed” to improve operations, enhance the state’s
grid and ensure reliability for the winter. The lights will stay on this winter
due to state agency efforts, he said.
“For the first time ever, we have gotten improved checks
and balances to ensure a higher level of reliability than we’ve ever had,” Lake
said. “As we did this summer, we will continue to operate with a margin of
safety and enhanced reserves, in addition to having reserves available to call
in response to real-time conditions.”
