Abbott hints at a phased return to normal in Texas, based on specific COVID-19 risk
Gov. Greg Abbott
suggested the return to normal after current shelter-in-place orders may be a
phased process, one based on the health risks to local communities.
Abbott dropped his initial
executive order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 on March 19. That’s only
been nine days ago. And if the underlying theory remains that Texans are
isolating themselves for at least 15 days, that would
put Day 15 on next Friday, April 3.
Asked yesterday about when
Texas students might return to school, Abbott suggested Texas, and the nation,
will be reassessing its self-quarantines around the 15-day mark. Where Texas is
and what the next steps are will be guided by the advice of health experts, he
said.
