Vice Chair Guillen is the lone Democrat on the committee to vote yes, Ds see their amendments go down while Chair Burrows seems open to changes on the floor
After
Democrats failed to add a few amendments to give local governments greater flexibility
in their budgets, Republicans on the Texas House Ways and Means Committee
early Thursday morning muscled through the property tax “reform” bill, HB 2,
advancing it toward floor debate in a couple weeks.
The
lone Democrat to vote for the bill in committee was Rep. Ryan Guillen, Rio Grande City, the Vice Chair of the committee.
Speaker
Dennis Bonnen was in the audience
along with several top staffers for the governor including former Sen. Tommy Williams.
