Texas House lawmakers consider overturning city ordinances on short term rentals
Cities argue neighborhoods needs tailored protections while their opposition says “The anti-STR crowd would have you believe its only pedophiles, pornstars, and party animals that frequent our homes but that’s not the truth”
Cities
and homeowners squared off in the Texas House Urban Affairs Committee
this week as lawmakers consider whether to prevent cities from setting their
own rules on for short term rentals facilitated by companies like HomeAway
and Airbnb.
In
her opening remarks before public testimony, Chair Angie Chen Button laid out her reasons for overturning bans and restrictions
that cities such as Austin and Galveston have enacted in recent years on short
term rentals.
