Republican member of Ethics Commission declines Patrick's request to resign
Lt. Gov. Patrick’s request for Commissioner Akin to step down was made the same week Attorney General Ken Paxton dropped the Ethics Commission’s lawsuit seeking subpoenas in the campaign finance case of Tim Dunn’s group Empower Texans; Patrick wants a “new direction” for TEC
Top
aides to Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick have
asked the Texas Senate’s Republican appointee to the Texas Ethics Commission
to resign his post, but Hugh Akin
has declined the presiding officer’s request.
In
a letter dated Tuesday and obtained by Quorum Report Wednesday morning
through an open records request, Akin said aides to Patrick including his Chief
of Staff Logan Spence called him
last week to request that he leave the post on the commission.
Akin’s term does not expire until next year and he intends
to serve until it is over.
