Paxton was late in paying payroll taxes
Branch blasts him as someone who “doesn’t believe in following tax laws”; Paxton counters the taxes have been paid in full
Already
taking heavy fire for some of his past business dealings and lapses in
disclosure, GOP candidate for Attorney General Ken Paxton faced even more criticism after it came to light
Wednesday afternoon that he was so late in paying payroll taxes that a lien was
filed against his campaign.
Documents
obtained by Quorum Report show this is the case.
The
Texas
Workforce Commission sent Paxton's campaign a notice of a tax lien for
unpaid taxes in the third quarter of last year. The payroll taxes in question,
taxes for unemployment insurance, were due at the end of October. The way that
works is if you don't pay when it's due, a notice is sent from the Workforce Commission
and subsequently, if a payment still hasn't been made, the agency can file a
notice of a tax lien.
The
TWC sent such a notice to the Paxton campaign on
February 4.
