HK: Parsing the Chris Turner hire
Whatever else it may mean, this is now authentically Wendy Davis' campaign
Does
the Chris Turner hire as the new
manager for the Wendy Davis team
suggest a campaign in disarray or a candidate reshaping it in the
candidate’s image?
Of
course the answer to both is “yes.” Turner potentially solves a series of
internal problems (he needs none of the on-the-job training that characterized the
tenure of Karin Johanson)
while underscoring the deliberate self-assertion that characterized Davis in
the Senate.
Does
the Turner hire enhance the long-shot path to victory for Davis? Who
knows? What Turner does do is bring a
skill set, a rolodex, an understated personality and the unique experience of
having run congressional campaigns for former Rep. Chet Edwards. For four terms Edwards, held the distinction of being the Democrat
representing the most Republican district in the country.
