GEREN ANNOUNCES MAJOR UPGRADES TO BROADCASTING HOUSE PROCEEDINGS INCLUDING UNLIMITED VIEWERSHIP
Quality and quantity substantially improved as rollout begins for both House and Senate
As
the last special couple of special sessions demonstrated, there are moments
when a broad public is intensely interested in what is happening under the pink
dome. For instance, until now, the
software used by the Texas House only allowed 2,500
viewers at a time which has lead some private groups
to seek to independently broadcast proceedings.
However,
today House Administration chairman Charlie
Geren announced a series of technological
upgrades that will allow unlimited viewership of activities on the House floor,
committee meetings and other events.
One
of the upgrades includes encoding in the H.264 format which allows accessing
feeds from mobile devices and in larger formats. The result will be improved video archives.
