Davis is finding some fire on the stump
Dynamics of the governor’s race on full display during East Austin campaign stop
While a small number of Republicans protested and taunted
Sen. Wendy Davis and her supporters outside
one of her campaign stops in East Austin, inside the event the Ft. Worth Democrat showed some signs that she is perhaps finding
her stride on the campaign trail.
In a speech that was at times quite fiery, Davis sought
to paint Attorney General Greg Abbott
as too corrupt to be the next governor of Texas. Corrupt, as you know, is one
of the ways Abbott’s campaign has worked diligently to try to portray Davis. Interestingly,
the taunting
of the protesters may have energized Davis in a way she might not have otherwise
been.
Those protesters outside Juan in a Million – a popular
Mexican restaurant with a great name, right? – were with the Austin
Young Republicans and included at least one staffer from the Abbott campaign.
Their demonstration featured placards with slogans like “What about the FBI?”
and “Davis robs taxpayers.”
As the Democrats inside the event were chanting “We want
Wendy! We want Wendy!” the Republicans outside were chanting “FBI! FBI! FBI” in
reference to
this.
