Bresnens push Texas Medical Board for a redo of proposed guidance for doctors on medical exceptions for legal abortions
The TMB’s proposal wouldn’t get the job done and would actually make the legal situation in Texas “more dangerous” for women
After
the Texas Medical Board released proposed rules in March that critics said
did not give any greater clarity to doctors about medical exceptions for legal
abortions, a pair of Texas Capitol veterans are pushing the board
to start over.
“Unfortunately,
the proposed rules fall way short of our hopes to obtain guidance from the
Board so physicians can implement the ‘life of the mother’ exceptions without
fear of punishment,” said attorneys Steve and Amy Bresnen, who are of
course also longtime lobbyists.
The
Bresnens also sent the TMB a set of extensive
comments on the proposed rules, which they argued don’t get the job done and will
make the legal situation in Texas “more dangerous” for women.
