Meantime McConaughey, Sen. Taylor and Rep. Cason bow out while more candidates jump in
Another week brought
another round of election filings, major announcements
and endorsements. Let’s get into it.
In a three-minute video
that could have easily lasted 13 seconds instead, Matthew McConaughey
announced he’s not running for Texas governor.
In actual news, another
senator announced he is retiring. Texas Senate Education Chair Larry
Taylor, R-Friendswood, plans to retire after serving two decades in the
Legislature.
House Freedom Caucus Chair Mayes Middleton, R-River Oaks, who had
planned to run against him, immediately filed for the seat. There have been
rumblings that Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick was encouraging Middleton to run
against Taylor, helping to force the incumbent out.
