Texas Senate approves legislation establishing a statewide broadband plan
Democrats argue affordability of broadband internet access is also an issue in urban areas; Sen. Whitmire hopes rural Republicans getting help from Democrats on this issue would help urban legislators to also expand health insurance coverage to more Texans
A plan to expand broadband access statewide is one step closer to
fruition. The Texas Senate on Wednesday passed unanimously Senate
Bill 5, which would create a State Broadband Development Office
based at the University of Texas System.
This office would create and publish a map identifying where
regions in the state have and do not have broadband access and award financial
incentives to expand access and affordability.
