Larger hubs to receive big shipments of COVID vaccine in Texas as state ramps up distribution
Meantime, legislators look for more clarity from leadership about the vaccine distribution process
The Department of
State Health Services has indicated it will begin shipping COVID-19
vaccines to larger vaccination hubs capable of immunizing more than 100,000
people. That process should begin next week.
Texas, like many states,
has been slow to see the COVID-19 vaccine make it from the vials into arms,
with DSHS Commissioner John Hellerstedt and
Gov. Greg Abbott urging providers at the end of December to move as
quickly as possible to vaccinate the first
tier of those prioritized to get the vaccine: health care workers; home
health care aides; and nursing home residents.
