Arguing too much time gets wasted in session, Rep. Raney pushes constitutional amendment for Texas Legislature to get to work faster
"We came here to do a job. Why do we waste this much time in doing it?" Rep. Raney asked and said “It's time we let the people of Texas have a say in the efficiency of their government.”
Hoping this session with
decreased bandwidth is the right time to propose such a reform, Rep. John Raney
has been working to build support for a change to the Texas Constitution
that would allow lawmakers to get to work much faster when they meet in regular
session every other year.
"We came here to do a
job. Why do we waste this much time in doing it?" Rep. Raney asked.
Under his
HJR 152, which right now has about 60 supporters in the House,
the Legislature would start its work with a brief “organizational session” lasting
no more than about two days in December of even numbered years.
