Voting rights advocates and some Texas counties in federal court to keep expanded mail-in ballot drop-off locations
One of the more interesting amicus briefs was filed by the Lincoln Project, which chided state leaders for failing to live up to the ideals of the early Republican Party: ending disenfranchisement of blacks to vote; providing equal protection for all voters; and extending the vote to women
Federal District Judge Robert
Pitman’s opinion of Gov. Greg Abbott’s emergency discretion on
voting locations may not be as cordial as all-but-unanimous decisions in
Abbott’s favor at the Texas Supreme Court.
Abbott prevailed over
Harris County Clerk Chris Hollins’ attempt to expand mail-in ballots
earlier this week, and he also won a challenge from Texas Republicans
about his earlier decision to extend the length of early voting.
