Members of Harris County delegation ask FEMA to continue COVID testing in the area

Rep. Davis of Harris says “Now is the time for more testing, not less.”

Twenty members of the Harris County delegation to the Legislature, Republicans and Democrats alike, sent a letter to FEMA Wednesday asking the federal government to "provide your full commitment and authorization for continued support through FEMA for the COVID-19 Community-Based Testing Sites" for the area.

The Trump Administration is reportedly planning to do the opposite as of now.

“With a population of 4.7 million people, Harris County is the third most populous county in the United States. It is also the most populous county in Texas,” the lawmakers from Houston wrote. “Regrettably, Harris County has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and ICU patients over the last few weeks. If these trends continue, our current healthcare system could become overwhelmed by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
