Updated: In statewide push, Texas House Democrats press for called session on gun violence

Abbott quickly rebuffs the request telling Democrats they should visit with their colleagues to build consensus at a time the GOP Caucus is dragging its feet on even having an in-person meeting thanks to the allegations faced by Speaker Bonnen

Texas House Democrats across the state today demanded Gov. Greg Abbott call a special legislative session to address gun violence after two mass shootings in Texas claimed the lives of 30 people and injured dozens more.

Members of the Dallas-Fort Worth, Central Texas, El Paso, Houston and San Antonio delegations were joined by allies at news conferences laying out their agenda for protecting Texans from further shootings.

They were quickly rebuffed by Gov. Abbott, whose office said the Democrats should work with their colleagues to build consensus before asking for a called session.
