Sen. Cornyn would welcome Sen. Royce West to US Senate race

West has set a “major announcement” for later this month: “Well, the more, the merrier,” said Cornyn. Of potential candidates, he added West is “the only one I know who actually has a record of public service as a Texas senator”

Sen. Royce West has scheduled what he calls “a special announcement” on July 22, which many expect to be West’s entrance into the U.S. Senate race.

Gains during the 2018 election cycle – and the election machine created by Beto O’Rourke – have emboldened Democrats to consider larger races. U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz called his tight victory over O’Rourke a mandate for jobs and security.
