Updated: TEA pulls the accreditation of Buckholts, Marlin, Sierra Blanca and Winfield school districts

Largest number of districts ever closed in one year, Progreso remains in litigation

The Texas Education Agency has revoked the accreditation of four smaller school districts in Texas, the largest number of school districts proposed for closure in a single year.

The Marlin Independent School District, just outside of Waco, has been on the cusp of closure for a number of years. The school district is Accreditation-Revoked under the 2017-18 Accountability ratings, along with Winfield in Northeast Texas, Sierra Blanca in West Texas and Buckholts, a one-school district outside of Cameron, Texas.
