Thousands of retirees flee TRS-Care
“We expected we would see a larger exodus by (the under 65) group. It was the opposite that happened.”
Last session’s temporary fix to TRS-Care –
at a cost of almost $700 million to the state – has resulted in the exodus of
36,400 retirees and dependents from the state’s health care plan.
Retired teachers went from the choice of health care
plans, including one at no cost to them, to one choice with higher premiums and
bigger deductibles.
