Mandatory paid sick leave shaping up as major local control fight at the Texas Capitol

Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio are the early battlegrounds; Republicans and business groups line up against it

Well ahead of the next session of the Texas Legislature, the issue of whether cities can require private employers to provide paid sick leave is shaping up as a major debate in 2019.

It’s a debate already raging in several of the state’s largest cities.
