HK: Factoring an erratic Governor into the next Speaker race
In just two cycles the Governor has shown there is no shelter in the storm for Republicans for either supporting or criticizing him, making the calculation of who to support for Speaker even more significant
Speaker
races are always somewhat mysterious and below the radar. And although we now
have three announced candidates, there is no guarantee that any of them is the
frontrunner. Frankly, the real race
starts in November after we see if there is any kind of Democratic wave. Meantime,
many in the 2012 Republican class are convinced the next presiding officer will
be from among their ranks.
Before
dismissing the idea of a Democratic wave, remember House races are the most
local of all.
