Harvey aid package stalls on the floor of the Senate, shutdown could be imminent

Gov. Abbott is proving his relationships with lawmakers in DC are as solid as the ones he has with lawmakers in the Texas Legislature

An $89 billion disaster relief package, part of a continuing budget resolution and severed from the contentious issue of immigration, is floundering at this hour on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

The goal of the newest continuing resolution was to avert a government shutdown tonight and reschedule the immigration debate for next week, but U.S. Senator Rand Paul is on the floor of the Senate, arguing the bipartisan agreement is a compromise in the wrong direction. Senate Republicans should be moving the continuing resolution toward a budget that only spends the revenues on hand, Paul told his colleagues.
