Updated: SREC elects James Dickey as RPT Chairman 32 to 31 over Rick Figueroa
Among his first decisions as chair, Dickey appointed Chris Gober as General Counsel and Trey Trainor as Assistant General Counsel.
As
many GOP insiders expected, it came down to the wire on Saturday morning as the
State
Republican Executive Committee chose a new Chairman of the Republican
Party of Texas.
On
a vote of 32 to 31, the SREC appointed James
Dickey, the Travis County GOP Chairman, over Rick Figueroa, a businessman from Brenham who had the backing of
former RPT Chairman Tom Mechler.
The
two men sprinted in this campaign over the last couple weeks after Mechler
abruptly resigned on May 20, citing family and financial reasons for stepping
aside. Mechler also warned the party that in order to
stay in the majority it must make more efforts to attract minorities.
