Texas House opens marathon debate on sanctuary cities
Chairman Geren confirms he will leave all amendments to the will of the body; Democrats say “This is a dark day for the Texas House of Representatives.”
Wednesday
morning, the Texas House began its debate on Senate Bill 4, Gov. Greg Abbott’s “sanctuary city”
emergency item. It’s a debate that’s expected to last late into the night,
possibly into the early morning hours.
On
Monday, the House failed to adopt a calendar rule for SB 4 when they didn’t get
the required 2/3rd vote.
House
Sponsor Charlie Geren said early in
the day that he’s not going to accept or table any amendments, instead leaving each
of them to the will of the House.
