TEA cuts employees from payroll in first significant staff reductions since 2011
“I want to emphasize that we do not anticipate any additional staff reductions,” Morath said
Education Commissioner Mike Morath announced late this afternoon
he would be cutting 39 positions out of Texas Education Agency staff, with
the option that some employees would be able to re-apply for other open jobs
within the agency.
The reduction is equivalent to about 5 percent of the
agency’s 825 on-site employees. In an email message that went out to employees
just after 4 p.m., Morath wrote the decision to cut
positions was made after a review of staffing patterns of other state agencies.
