Senators push Commissioner Bush for more transparency in progress on The Alamo restoration

There's bipartisan concern about Bush’s complicated plan of interlocking partnerships that aren’t always subject to open records and open meetings requirements

Members of Senate Finance appeared ready this afternoon to take a more direct hands-on role to deliver a simpler, more transparent plan for transforming The Alamo.

The General Land Office has been caretaker of Texas’ most famous shrine since 2011, when lawmakers moved to phase out the management of the Daughters of the Texas Revolution. Over the last two sessions, lawmakers have dedicated $100 million to jumpstart a master plan and begin deferred maintenance on the historic structure.

So far, response to Land Commissioner George P Bush’s efforts have been mixed.
